INCHING TO THE END OF A SESSION

Last night we had a Very Hungry Caterpillar party at our library. Love the book. Adore everything by Eric Carle. Enjoyed the party planning. Had a good time decorating. Delighted in sharing the fun with families. However..........rather than feeling like a caterpillar, I feel more like a snail...... inching slowly to the end of our programming session.

The end of this stretch from January to May can get to be sooooooooooooo long. Cynthia and I will be reinventing our programs and approach to scheduling programs for the fall session. Summer has a life all it's own.

The Caterpillar Cafe' had fruit and some cake that looked like you know who :  )

Even the tables looked like the caterpillar!

Kids crawled through the fruit and then a tunnel to become butterflies. We gave them a butterfly fan when they crawled out of the tunnel "cocoon".

There was face paint.....

a craft and some games..............

and the story, of course!

After  all the treats were devoured, the stories were told, and the games were played, it was time to go home.........whew! And to all a good night!

  1. Hmmmm, this looks extremely cool! I'm thinking maybe a book-themed party for next year...how many people did you have? About how much did this cost? Time to put together? We (myself and colleague from school district) just finished our annual extravaganza program - Woody's Reading Round Up. Books, photo ops, crafts, food, and petting zoo (the musicians didn't show up). We had over 200 people, so that's kind of what I'm shooting for. I can't really fit more than 250 in the space...

    1. I love to do book themed parties at our library and they are well attended. We have a space issue, so we use pre-registration with a themed ticket(to make it feel special) that the family brings to the party. We always have some walk ins, which is fine, but at least we have a better idea of how much food, craft material, and space we need.
Cost for this party---less than $100. Time invested, plannig and prep amounted to about 15 hours total, but that is hard to judge since I am always multi tasking. If you have any questions let me know and have fun with your party!
